How to Copy-Paste, Import and Sync Sections and Learning Activities Across a School

Courses can have multiple sections and learning activities. In this article, you will find more information on how you can re-use your course content across your LearnWorlds school, saving time and effort and promoting consistency while also improving collaboration and content management within the educational environment. 

It is possible to copy/paste, import, or sync a complete course section or a specific learning activity across your LearnWorlds school.

It is possible to Import and Sync Courses, Sections, and Learning Activities across Multiple LearnWorlds schools under the same Organization. You can find out more in this article.

Copy and Paste Sections

You can copy a course's section and paste it within the same course or a different course destination.

1. Go to the Courses menu.

2. Navigate to your course and hover over the section you wish to copy, in the Contents tab.

3. Use the Copy section & Paste section below buttons accordingly to copy and paste a whole section within the same or a different destination course.

Your content will be duplicated below the paste location.

Import Sections

After creating a new course you can import course sections from different courses. From that point, you can keep building up and importing more course sections.

In the same way, you can also import a section in a course that already has created content in it.

Once you click on Import Section the respective Import Sections panel will pop up. You can select single or multiple sections to be imported from the same or different course/s. This action will import the whole section and its learning activities.

Notes: 

• If you want to import an entire course, apart from cloning the course you can also select all of the available sections to be imported from the Import Sections panel.
• On a Section level, pasted or imported material will automatically carry over the original section settings e.g. section title, and description will be retained however, the copied/pasted or imported section/s will be set to Draft by default.
• The copied/pasted or imported elements are given the prefix Copy of plus the retained "original title" name.

• If the original course has Drip feed by date enabled, the original drip date will be stripped and there will be No date specified. The admin will need to edit the pasted/imported section/s and select a drip-feed date anew. The subject and the body of the Εmail Νotification are pasted/imported as well, but it stays as deactivated hence the admin needs to activate it manually.

Copy and Paste Learning Activities

Similar to copying/pasting a section you can also copy and paste Learning Activities individually. You need to:

1. Go to the Courses menu.

2. Navigate to your course and hover over the learning activity you wish to copy, in the Contents tab.

3. Use the Copy learning activity and Paste learning activities buttons correspondingly to copy and paste a learning activity within the same or a different destination course.

Your content will be duplicated below the paste location.

Import Learning Activities

You can import individual learning activities to your created courses. On a learning activity level, you need to click on Import activity, under the desired section. You can also hover over the learning activity and click on Import learning activity below:

In the Import Learning Activities panel expand the section to reveal the learning activities and select the ones you wish to import.

If you wish to import all the learning activities of a section, click on the section itself, and all the respective learning activities will be selected.

Notes:

• On a Learning activity level, the preset characteristics and settings are also retained as per the source to the new one e.g. the interactive elements of a Video learning unit are carried over.
• About pasted or imported Live sessions type of activities (e.g. Zoom, Webex). Live sessions are date and URL-specific. To prevent overlapping two identical live meetings, Live Sessions do not carry over the (e.g. Zoom, Webex) URL or date. The system only duplicates the Live session activities and retains their title.

Copy/Paste Learning Activities and Sections between different courses

As mentioned, you can open simultaneously both courses (original & destination course) on the same browser to complete the Copy/Paste action of the Learning Activities and Sections.

Sync Content

Let's delve into the content-syncing process. When you synchronize a course, section, or activity within the same school, any changes made are reflected across all synchronized peers.

Sync Course (Content and Layout page)

To sync the content and/or the layout page of a course from your admin dashboard:

1. Navigate to Courses → Course Manager → hover over the course you want to sync and click on Clone Course. For guidance on cloning a course, refer to this article: How to Duplicate/Clone a Course.

2. Choose whether to synchronize only the course content, the course layout page, or both. For each selection, a pop-up message will provide details on the information to be synchronized and will seek your consent. 

3. Click on Clone course to complete the synchronization process.

Sync Sections and Learning Activities

When synchronizing a course within the same school, the synchronization primarily involves the content within the Contents tab, including sections and learning activities. However, there may be instances where you specifically want to import and sync an activity or a specific section.

To import and sync an activity, from your admin dashboard:

1. Navigate to Course manager → choose your course.

2. Click on Import activity → select the course you wish and select which activity or activities you wish to add.

3. Define if the selected activities will keep in sync with the source ones.

 

To import and sync a section, from your admin dashboard:

1. Navigate to Course Manager → choose your course.

2. Click on Import section →  select the sections and the activities you want to import to the current course.

3. Define if the selected section will keep in sync with the source ones.
