How to Offer free Learning Material as a Lead Magnet

To attract more visitors to your school's website, you can offer them freebies like sample sections from paid courses, free courses, or downloadable material. To make it easy for them to access these goodies, consider adding a Get email form/Email grabber on your site. This will prompt visitors to submit their email addresses in exchange for valuable content like PDFs or videos.


In this article, we will learn how to offer free learning material to users as a lead magnet using email grabber forms and editing the before and after submit views. 


1. Navigate to the page you wish to offer the free material. 

2. Add a Form - Email grabber section or a Form/Get email widget. 

Before Submit Editing View options

Click on Edit Form to start editing the Before submit design of your email grabber. 

You can set an action to be generated after users submit their information in the Email Grabber form. Click on the drop-down menu from Redirect on submit, while in the Before submit view to see the available actions. You can:

  • Redirect users to a shareable link of a Cloud service with a free digital file with a URL on  click action.
  • Redirect users to a Paid Course with a Free section with the Course Activity on click action.
  • Redirect users to a Free course with the Course on click action.

To access a free section or course, users need to create an account. Here's how they can set up their accounts.


After Submit Editing View options

Click on the After submit option under Editing view.

In the After submit editing view, you can experience what users will see once they add their information and click to submit the form. 


  1. The “freebie” can be linked in the Thank you text. You could rephrase it to Grab your Ebook here! and add a link to a Google Drive, Dropbox, or WeTransfer shareable file. For more information on how to use links, check this relevant article.
  2. You can choose the entire element and create on-click actions to redirect users to a Shareable link or a Course/Course activity once they click it. You can:
  • Redirect users to a shareable link of a Cloud service with a free digital file with a URL on  click action.
  • Redirect users to a Paid Course with a Free section with the Course Activity on click action.
  • Redirect users to a Free course with the Course on click action.

You are ready to gather leads with a freebie as a magnet.


Notes: 

  • You can gather leads with a freebie as a lead magnet by creating an Email popup and redirecting users when submitting their email to your Free material. 
  • You can use Marketing Forms as a lead magnet, by selecting the "Lead Capture" form template, and on the "After Submission" settings to redirect users to your free material. You can also enable the setting to save the data in the "Leads from Pages" table.
  • Make sure your file's visibility in Google Drive is set to Anyone with the link. If it's set to Restricted then only people who are logged in to Google and have been granted access to the file will be able to open the direct link (which probably isn't what you want).
  • If you wish the users to click on the text and download the material directly, then you can transform your Google Drive links to direct download links here: https://sites.google.com/site/gdocs2direct/.
  • You can add tags to your collected leads (via this specific form) or when the submission button is clicked. Using tags, you can filter the contacts that have submitted their details from Users → Leads. You can learn more about how to utilize the gathered leads by checking this article.
