How to Extend a User's Subscription Trial Period

We’re rolling out a major upgrade! If you started your trial on or after June 2, 2025, you’ll notice some exciting new features as part of our latest release. Some articles already reflect the new experience, while others are being updated.

This feature allows you to extend the number of trial days for a user who is currently on a subscription trial. It's useful when you want to give learners more time to explore your content before their billing begins.

This brings value by offering flexibility in user experience, improving satisfaction, and potentially increasing conversions from trial to paid plans.

In this article, you'll learn how to extend a user's trial period and adjust the billing cycle for users who have an active subscription but are no longer in their trial phase.

Use Cases

  • A user needs more time to explore the course before committing.
  • A user encountered technical issues and couldn't fully use their trial time.
  • You want to reward loyal users with more time before payment starts.
  • You need to adjust the billing cycle of a subscription to better align with a specific user’s situation or preferences.

Extend the Trial Period for a User

To extend the trial period:

1. Navigate to your LearnWorlds admin dashboard and click E-commerce Plans.

2. Locate the user who is currently in a trial period.

3. Hover over the three dots.

4. Click the "Extend trial" button.

5. Enter the number of additional trial days you wish to grant and click update.

Once confirmed, the trial is extended immediately. If the user is currently in a trial period, the additional days are added to the existing trial.

Modify the Billing Cycle

If a user has an active subscription but is no longer on trial, you can still grant trial days. Doing so will postpone their billing or renewal date accordingly.

For example, if you want to move a user's renewal date from the 10th of the month to the 20th, you can initiate a new Trial period. Once the Trial ends, the user will transition back to an active subscription, now aligned with the new billing date.

This change takes effect immediately and applies to the user's current billing cycle; no additional confirmation is required.
