How to Grade Assessments or Provide Feedback (Review Center)

LearnWorlds offers a structured and flexible approach to grading, reviewing, and providing feedback on assessments through two main tools: the Review Center and the Gradebook. This guide combines all relevant information to help instructors and admins manage assessments effectively.

Grading Exam (Graded) Assessments

Those activities are typically used for evaluating learner performance and assigning scores. Here's how to review and grade them:

  1. Navigate to Courses Review Center from the LearnWorlds admin dashboard.
  2. Open the Unreviewed/Ungraded tab.
  3. Hover over Manage next to a learner’s assessment and click Review Assessment.

Inside the Review Page you will see the learner’s responses, the type of question, and any auto-assigned grades.

For open-ended questions (Text, File Upload, Record Video), you should provide manual grading:

  • Assign a numeric score.
  • Add written feedback, upload a file, or record audio/video feedback (up to 120 seconds).

AI Assistant is also available here to help you generate/polish feedback if desired.

In case you are using auto-graded questions, you can optionally edit the feedback (if Manual Feedback is enabled).

At the bottom, you can review the Assessment Score Summary, which includes:

  • Auto-graded question score
  • Manually graded question score
  • Final total score and pass/fail result
Don’t forget to click Submit Review to finalize grading and make feedback visible to the learner.

Users will see the Pending status ending screen until the Assessment has been graded.

Once you have completed the assessment, graded assessments move to the Reviewed/Graded tab and grades automatically sync to the Gradebook. Learners will receive a notification if email notifications are enabled.

Providing Feedback on Self-Assessments

Self-assessments are designed for reflection and self-evaluation. While they are typically not scored, instructors or admins can provide detailed manual feedback when needed. To enable this, make sure the 'Manual Feedback' setting is activated in the assessment settings.

Once enabled, learner submissions will be routed to the Review Center for feedback. Check the steps you need to follow below:

  • Navigate to the Review Center from the LearnWorlds admin dashboard.
  • Open the Unreviewed tab to see pending responses.
  • Click on a learner’s submission to view their answers.
  • Provide written feedback, attach files, or even record a video response.
  • Click Submit Feedback—the learner will be notified once feedback is available.

Inside the Review Page, you can view each answer provided by the learner and add written, file-based, or recorded audio/video feedback. Once ready, click Submit Feedback to finalize the review

Don't forget that you can use the AI Assistant to generate feedback if desired.

User's experience

1. Based on the feedback settings you have enabled, users will view the relevant Feedback on the Ending Screen as soon as they submit the assessment.

You can also check this article for more information: How to Offer Feedback/Answers Reports in Assessments and Forms.

2. As soon as their assessment has been reviewed (if assignment questions have been added that require manual review), they will be able to view the feedback on the Course Player:

Users will also receive a notification in their inbox (if you have enabled the relevant notification: How to edit your learners school emails).

Important Notes

  • If you include Text Assignment, File Assignment, or Record Video/Audio questions in your self-assessment, the submissions will automatically be sent to the Review Center, even if the Manual Feedback option is not enabled.
  • If you're using form question types such as File Upload or Record Video/Audio, you must enable Manual Feedback for responses to be routed to the Review Center.
  • When creating a Self Assessment or Exam, enabling the Manual Feedback setting will ensure that all responses—even those from closed-ended questions—are sent to the Review Center for further review.

  • The admins and Instructors can upload files when reviewing a submission (both for a question and as overall feedback) and even record video/audio feedback as the assessment's overall feedback (maximum recording length allowed: 120 seconds).
  • If your assessment contains auto-graded questions as well, the score you will insert on the essay questions will define whether the user will pass the general assessment. This is displayed on the Score for auto-graded questions. The field will display 0 / 0 points if you don't have auto-graded questions.
  • For already graded/reviewed assessments, you can click on the Reviewed/ Graded tab, review the assessment again, and then click Update.
  • If an assessment is modified at a later time, it will not affgrade/completion status for users who have already taken it.
