How to Use the Before Sign in/up and After Sign in/up Topbar

In LearnWorlds the signup and the subsequent sign-in are mandatory for users to access your course content. Hence we offer a different topbar for logged-out users and for logged-in users.

This is the reason why, during editing, you can find both the Before Sign in/up top bar and the After sign in/up top bar. These features are designed to help you create the navigation flow for both logged-in and logged-out users on your LearnWorlds school platform.

You have the option to customize the topbar for logged-out users and make it, for example, more simplistic and marketing oriented and also create a topbar for logged-in users to make it product-targeted.

  • Before sign in/up topbar: addressed to users that have not signed up in your school or have logged out from their account.
  • After sign in/up topbar: addressed to users that have already signed up in your school, authenticated themselves, and are logged in.

Before Sign in/up Topbar

The Before Sign-in/up topbar is addressed to users who have not signed up yet in your school or might have already signed up but have logged out from their account so in both cases they visit your school as logged-out users.

1. Go to Website → Design →  Edit Website.

2. Click on Edit School Topbar → Before sign in/up topbar.

3. You can edit & customize further your topbar.

4. You can set up the top bar navigation buttons.

After Sign in/up Topbar

The After Sign in/up topbar is addressed to users who have already signed up in your school, authenticated themselves, and are logged in.

1. Go to Website → Design →  Edit Website.

2. Click on Edit School Topbar → After sign-in/up topbar.

3. You can edit & customize further your topbar.

4. You can set up the top bar navigation buttons.

Difference between the Before Sign in/up and After Sign in/up topbar

The main difference between the two views is the suggested buttons to use for your users. For example, for logged-out users, and thusly for the Before Sign in/up topbar, it is recommended to have buttons such as:

a. Home (your Landing page that is accessible only to logged-out users)

b. Sign up

c. Sign in

d. Courses / Products Page

e. Contact us

f. About us

For users that have already signed up and are logged into your school, or even already purchased a product, it is recommended to include in the After Sign in/up topbar buttons such as:

a. After Login/Start (this page is accessible only to logged-in users)

b. My Account   Profile   Inbox   Sign Out

c. Courses / Products Page

d. Ask Instructors or Tech Support. You can find out more on how to set up these accounts, here.

e. Learning apps (if enabled, such as Blog, Community, Daily News, Best Resources)

You can always customize your topbar as you wish, and add any navigational buttons you find important, apart from the suggested ones.

Notes

  • When previewing the top bar by clicking on Preview, admins will view the After log-in top bar version by default, since they are already logged in to the school so they will see the top bar a logged-in user sees. If you would like to preview the Before Sign in/up topbar, you need to visit your LearnWorlds school, while logged out from your admin account or visit your school via an incognito window or a different browser as a logged-out user.

  • The Before and After sign-in/up topbar is also reflected in the Hamburger menu for mobile devices and screens. For more information on how to further customize the Hamburger menu, you can check this article.
