Ebooks are a dynamic way to deliver content, blending text, images, videos, and links to create an engaging learning experience. At LearnWorlds, we have streamlined the ebook creation process, making it a hassle-free experience that can be accomplished in just a few steps.

In this article, we will learn how to create and design an Ebook learning activity.

Create the Ebook Learning Activity

To create an Ebook learning activity:

1. Navigate to your course's Course outline tab.

2. Click on Add Activity under the desired course section.

3. Click on the Ebook option. You can either choose a professionally designed template or start from scratch.

4. Once your Ebook template is selected, you will be redirected to the Course outline where you can give your Ebook a title, and click Save or Save & Edit to start making changes immediately.

Ebook Settings

Once you have saved your Ebook, hover over the activity and click on Settings to customize the basic settings (if you selected Save & Edit while creating the activity, skip this step):

  • Edit Ebook Text: This takes you to the Ebook Authoring panel.
  • Title, Description, and Icon: Set the title, add a description, and choose an icon for your eBook.
  • Digital Download & Background Image: Upload a background image and allow users to download a digital copy.
  • Set Prerequisites: Make this eBook a prerequisite step for learners to complete before moving on to the next unit.
  • Reading Time: The system will automatically calculate the reading time (it calculates 180 words per minute, thus 3 words per second), but you can set your own estimated time if needed.
  • Password Protection: Optionally, password-protect your eBook by following the steps here.

Design and Edit the Ebook

Hover over your Ebook learning activity and click on Edit Ebook to enter the Ebook authoring environment (if you selected Save & Edit while creating the activity, skip this step). Here’s how to start building your eBook:

1. Add Sections/Widgets:
Click +Add Section. A pop-up window will appear, offering a variety of pre-made templates to choose from. These templates give you a head start while still allowing creative flexibility. For more information on how you can structure your Ebook, you can refer to our relevant article here.

2. Import Word Documents:
Click +Import Word Document to select a .doc, .docx, or .odt file. You’ll have the option to preserve the file format and add any images to your image library. For more details on importing Word documents, refer to this article.

3. Utilize the AI assistant:
You can author Ebooks using the AI assistant to save time and effort in creating your Ebook content by following the steps in this article.

Managing your Ebooks and Ebook Contents

On the left side of the authoring environment, you will see two main options:

  • Ebooks: View and manage all eBook learning activities across your courses.
  • Contents: Access and edit specific sections of the eBook you’re working on.

Each eBook activity includes a window with essential details such as the course name, activity type, last update, word count, estimated reading time, and the option to copy the activity URL.

We understand the importance of ensuring your Ebook's user interface (UI) looks impeccable across various devices. To empower you in this regard, we have implemented a valuable feature that allows you to assess and fine-tune the appearance of your Ebook on different devices using the device scale.
