LearnWorlds supports AI-assisted grading for open-text questions within exams, helping you streamline evaluation, save time, and deliver high-quality, personalized feedback to your learners.
This guide shows you how to set up the AI Reviewed Text Assignment and configure an AI-powered assessment.
Why use AI to grade open-text assignments
The AI Reviewed Text Assignment is a type of question, available under the AI Enhanced Questions section when adding questions to an exam. It helps you:
- Save time by removing the need for manual review.
- Provide fast, consistent feedback across all learners.
- Scale your grading process effortlessly for large classes.
- Enhance learning outcomes with targeted, personalized feedback.
Add an AI-reviewed text assignment question
Add an AI-Guided dialogue question
1. Create a new graded or non-graded (self-assessment) exam, or edit an existing one.
2. Click the “+” Add Question button.
3. Click on AI Enhanced Questions.
4. Select AI reviewed text assignment.
5. Select to Add a question or Fill with AI.
Configure your AI reviewed text assignment
Add: Start by entering your open-ended question (e.g., “How can you practice photography using your phone camera?”). Then, set the display and formatting preferences for the answer field.
Fill with AI: Describe in the dialogue box the questions you want to generate.
Once the question is added, click on Edit question, where you will see three tabs: AI review test assignment, Score, and Feedback.
For non-graded exams (self-assessments), only the AI review test assignment and Feedback tabs appear.

1. Set the Points for the question.
2. Fill in the AI scoring criteria.
Feedback
Activate AI Automatic Feedback, to personalize how the system responds to learners by configuring several options, like the focus of the feedback criteria, type, length, strictness, and tone of voice. These settings allow you to align the feedback with the style of your course and the maturity of your audience.
If you want learners to ask follow-up questions about their feedback, activate the AI Feedback Assistant, and set the number of times they can interact with it. To enable the feature, navigate to Settings → Feedback → AI Feedback Assistant.Once you configure everything, click Save.

- Write clear, focused prompts.
- Define detailed assessment criteria.
- Enable the AI Feedback Assistant for deeper learner engagement.
- Test the AI-reviewed question thoroughly in Preview mode to ensure the configuration meets your expectations.
User Experience
Learners will respond to this question type as they would with any exam question. After submitting, their score will show as Pending. To view the feedback, they can refresh the page or revisit the exam later, just like with other assessments.
If the AI Feedback Assistant is enabled, learners can also interact with the AI to get deeper insights into their score and evaluation.
