We have introduced the new powerful and flexible Assessment Builder. You can find more information about the new Assessments and Certificates here. You can learn how to migrate your existing Assessments here.

A File Αssignment is a learning activity, similar to Assignments, through which instructors can request users to submit one or more files in their answers. This feature is available in the Pro Trainer plan and above.

Create your File Assignment

1. Go to Courses, located the desired course, and go to the Contents tab.

2. Click Add an activity.

2. Under the Questionnaires (Legacy) tab choose File Assignment (Legacy).

3. Give a title and click Save or Save & Edit to create your assignment.

File Assignment Settings

Once you create a File assignment learning activity, you can set it up & choose your desired settings:

1. Hover over the File Assignment and click on Settings, to edit and set up the assignment.

2. The Update File Assignment side form will appear.

3. Set up your learning activity's settings:

  • Course player details: Set the title, description, and icon for this learning activity that will show in the course player.
  • Assignment description: Provide the users with details and instructions for this file assignment.
  • Upload extra material: Provide users with a template or other background material that they can download to use for the assignment.
  • Select upload methodsSelect how users will upload their files.
  • Due date: Set a deadline date for the submissions.
  • Confirmation message: Write a message for the students to see after submitting their replies.
  • Downloadable files after the success: Show a doc, pdf, or any other file after the user has successfully completed the exam.
  • Passing grade in %: Set the passing grade for the exam. The default number is 80%.
  • Allow resubmission if failed: Allow learners to resubmit their assignment if they failed.
  • Time for answer update: Set a time period (in minutes) within which students can resubmit their answers, after their first submission. Usually a period between 10 to 30 minutes.
  • Unit background image: Set a background image for this learning activity. Just a few content templates take advantage of this image, so you may not have to upload an image.
  • Password protect access to this unit: Secure this learning activity by adding a password.

4. Click on Save

You can click on Preview Course Player and see the changes you made.

File Assignments can be set up as part of Paid, Draft, and Coming Soon course sections. You cannot add a File Assignment in Free sections (to prevent the exchange of any inappropriate files).

Notes:

  • Each file can be up to 20MB (same as with PDFs or digital downloads added by admins and instructors). However, you are able to set a lower threshold in the learning activity's Settings.
  • If you enable the "File Uploading" setting as an upload method, if users select the "Link to File" option they need to add a direct link to the file, instead of a link that will redirect to the general storage folder.

User File Submission

According to your settings, this is what the file assignment submission will look like in the course player for the users.

Thusly, if users upload a Google drive link, the following error will be displayed:

"Failed to fetch. Make sure that the link is an http(s) URL pointing to a valid file"

If users want to upload a general Google Drive link, they need to add it to the Notes.

  • For security reasons, users cannot upload the following formats:

a. Files with file extensions:

apk, app, bat, bin, cmd, com, exe, inf, msi, out, osx, ps1, prg, run, reg, vb, vbs, vbscript, jar, html, htm

b. Mimetypes:

application/vnd.microsoft.portable-executable, application/x-dosexec, text/html
