When selling courses online, you need to accept payments worldwide. Setting up the payments while creating an online school is an important step along the way. You need to choose the correct payment processor (or payment gateway) to handle the online payments.
What is a payment processor you may ask?
A payment processor is a company (often a third party) appointed by a merchant to handle transactions from various channels such as credit cards and debit cards for merchant acquiring banks
Here in LearnWorlds we give you a choice of four payment gateways to get paid through for your courses:
To sell your courses through LearnWorlds, you will need an account through one of those payment processors. However, if you don’t want to use one of those or have an alternative way of collecting your students’ payments, you can always enroll them manually.
How to enroll users manually
Manual Enrollments of Students at LearnWorlds
There are cases where credit/debit cards are not so common. If your students are used to different payment methods, you can always sell through those channels and then enroll them manually. That means getting into the admin panel and adding them to the course.
Alternative ways to get paid for your courses or training include:
Exchange of services
Or any other method apart from credit/debit cards you might utilize. Sometimes, being creative in accepting payments will go a long way for new course creators. Starting up a digital business or working remotely with disadvantaged or specific groups of customers might need special care too.
Recurring Course Subscriptions & Currencies – Stripe is the way to go
You might be asking “Why Stripe?”
Stripe is our little special payment gateway that enables a few extra options you might need for creating profitable online courses
1 Recurring Course Subscriptions
Giving a single reason is that Stripe is the best possible payment gateway to support recurring course subscriptions. Without Stripe, you won’t be able to create a subscription-based course. There are workarounds, but it will make it a bit more difficult to create a membership site (unless you will be accepting one-off payments or doing the whole work manually).

Selling online courses with Shopify
Selling courses online might be a new venture for you, but if you already have a store with Shopify, you can connect your store with LearnWorlds and sell within LearnWorlds or Shopify, while your new students will be signing in your new school automatically.
No need to complicate things when you can just connect them.
Which countries does LearnWorlds’ Online Course Platform supports?
LearnWorlds supports four payment gateways which in turn support most of the countries in the world.
Paypal Supports 200 countries, China and India Included
Stripe Supports 25 of the most economically advanced countries
2Checkout supports almost 200 countries, your own might be one of them
While Shopify works with a number of payment gateways and supports almost the whole world!
Choosing how to accept payments for your new business and e-courses is a big decision, one that should not be taken lightly. While we suggest Stripe due to the flexibility of the subscriptions and ability to accept memberships; you will need to do some research beforehand.
List of Countries supported to sell course online
The following list is not exhaustive, if you can’t find your own country, visit Paypal or 2Checkout for a wider selection of countries, or take a look at Shopify’s additional payment gateways.
The below-listed countries refer to the location of the merchant. When setting up a business account to accept payments for online courses, your business must be incorporated and have a business address in that country.
Your students can come from any part of the world and you can accept payments from anyplace as long as they have a valid credit/debit card or a support payment method. With LearnWorlds you can accept payments for your online courses worldwide, as long as you choose the right method for you. For alternative payments, methods and manual enrollments, read above.
*Authorize.net is no longer supported as a payment gateway for LearnWorlds.
Payment Transaction Fees
Part of pricing an online course comes from the financial planning of your business (or yourself if you are solopreneur). When you are setting up the pricing and financial planning, remember to take into account the processing fees that will incur in the transactions.
As every business, whether it’s a bank or another intermediary, there are usually fees on your side and maybe your customers’ side. Here is a quick break-down of our supported Payment Gateway fees:
Paypal: Transaction fees are 2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you receive, click here for more information.
Stripe: Also transaction fees of 2.9% plus $0.30 USD of the amount you receive, might be different for corporate pricing. More information on Stripe’s pricing page.
2Checkout: Transaction fees vary based on your country, you should take a look at their pricing calculator.
Shopify: Starting at 2.9% + 30¢ and a monthly fee and supports most countries. You will need to take a look at Shopify’s pricing and choose the payment gateway that will go through. Shopify is not suggested as a payment gateway except if you already have an active Shopify store.
