What better way to monitor your learners' progress than assigning them an exam. Within your LearnWorlds school you can create the most amazing exam activities with either multiple choice or true/false questions, to always be aware of your students' potential and course progress. The exam learning unit can be used for creating formal tests and with it you can create any kind of test type by adjusting settings such as the duration of the test, maximum number of tries, passing grade ,etc. Here are some basic steps you can take when creating your exam learning unit:
1 Go to Courses --> "Desired course".
2 In the course contents page under the section in which you want to create an exam click "Add an activity".
If you want to create a new section to add the exam then first click on "Add section" and then click "Add an activity".
3 To create an Exam click at the Exam button.
4 Give a title to your exam and click on the “Save” button
You just created your first Exam!!
5 To edit the exam click the "Settings" button for this element.
6 To customize your exam questions, simply click on the "Edit questions" button shown below.
7 The first time you create an Exam, you will be prompted to choose your desired settings, including the passing grade, test duration, etc.
In the table below you may find a list of available Exam settings.
|Duration in minutes?||It is the full time that your students will have at their disposal to take the Exam. A countdown clock will be appear at the top right corner of your Exam.|
|Random Questions? ||This options makes sure that your questions will be shown in randomized order. For example if your test has 20 questions and you set the Random questions to 10, then in each exam attempt, 10 questions will be selected at random and shown to the student. If you check Random Questions but don't specify a number, then all questions of the current test will be shown in random order.|
|Maximum number of tries?||This option allows you to set how many times a student can re-take the exam.|
|Auto-navigation||When the auto-navigation option is enabled, the user doesn't have to click the "Next" button in order to go to the next question. Instead, as soon as he/she selects an answer, the exam moves to the next question|
|Notify user before submit||When this option is enabled, a confirm prompt will appear when the student is submitting his/her questionnaire, in order to avoid accidental test submissions.|
|Show students' mistakes||When this option is enabled the students, after submitting the exam, will be able to re-view their answers to see whether they answered correct or not.|
Note: If a student gave the wrong answer at a question, the correct one will not be revealed. Students can always re-try the test, if you have the relevant option enabled.
|Downloadable file after success||When this option is enabld, the students after submitting the exam and getting a passing grade, they will be given access to a companion file provided by you.|
You can change the label of the button and add the link showing to that file.
|Passing grade in %?||With this option you can set the percentage of correct answers a student must achieve in order to pass the Exam.|
8 In order to add questions to your test, simply hover on the cross sign on the upper side of the screen and choose the type of question you want to add:
a) Multiple choice:
After your insert a multiple choice question, type/paste your question, the possible answers and at the correct answer click the "correct" checkbox next to it.
Note: You can add more alternative answers by clicking the “Add Choice“ button bellow.
After inserting the True/False question, type/paste the question title and the statement. If the statement is true click the correct box otherwise leave it blank (blank means that the statement is False).
9 Don't forget to click on the "Save" button to save your exam changes.
Remember you can change the settings of your exam whenever you wish. By clicking "Change settings" in the top-bar of authoring exam.
